I look forward to this time of year every four years...the summer olympics. I love watching every event weather it's diving, swimming, track, volleyball, rowing, etc. It is so much fun to cheer on the United States and I even enjoy experiencing the triumphs of other countries. I got to experience the olympics in 2004 in a different way. I actually knew one of the athletes personally. She was a bridesmaid of mine and is still a dear friend. She was on the womens rowing team that took silver in Athens. It was so enjoyable to sit in front of the TV, not only cheering on the USA, but cheering on Megan.
This year will also be different from other years. I now get the opportunity to introduce my own child to the excitement and power of the olympics. Tanner was still in my tummy four years ago, although I am sure he felt my excitement when I was jumping up and down cheering for Megan and the rest of the olympians. We have talked a little about what he will get to see, he is very excited to watch the boys do gymnastics and also the swimmers. Maybe he will get excited to continue with gymnastics even though he doesn't like being the only boy. Maybe in 20 years we will get to be at the olympics in person cheering Tanner on. ( A mother can always dream).
I hope that by the 24th of August, when the summer olympics are over until 2012, Tanner will understand the importance and the excitement. I sure hope so.
I have included a video montage of the Athens olympics..maybe it will build your excitement for Friday night. GO USA!!
